We were incredibly fortunate to be able to learn from the Apple Hill String Quartet and Apple Hill Director Lenny Matczynski during our final Masterclass of the year on Sunday, March 6th. Focusing on social change and conflict resolution through music, the Apple Hill Quartet performs concerts and leads chamber music workshops in areas with a history of conflict: the Middle East in Turkey, Jordan, Israel, Egypt, the West Bank/Palestine, and the Greek and Turkish areas of Cyprus; England, Northern Ireland, and the Republic of Ireland; and the Eurasian Caucasus. They emphasize listening, observing, adjusting, sensitivity and flexibility – the same skills needed to function in today’s contentious world. We are grateful for their inspiration and guidance, and hope they come back soon!
