We are SO proud of Project STEP violinist Tristan for competing in the 2016 Sphinx Competition. Tristan was selected from a broad national pool of highly talented Black and Latino string players and traveled to Detroit from Feb. 3 – 7 to compete as one of just 9 semi-finalists in the Junior Division. He performed masterfully and with wonderful musicality and we couldn’t be prouder. Now, on to college and conservatory auditions!

During the competition, members of STEP’s staff also attended Sphinx’s annual conference SphinxCon to learn from leaders in the field about issues surrounding diversity and inclusion in the arts. All in all, an exciting and thought-provoking weekend!
